![]() So, Ed, Alex and Mike were in the main room with cabinets isolated and drums in the main room.Įd's cabinet mics (2 SM57's) outputs are fed to the live reverb room and that's the VH1 guitar reverb that has mystified so many and launched misguided theories of amp slaving and who knows were created over the years to try to explain it when it's just totally simple, it was just Ed's amp on 10 sent though the live reverb chamber.Įd had his Phaser, Flanger and Echoplex and had backups as well. (Photobucket won't allow embedded images so my images are not in the Metroamp thread so I've uploaded my original image from the old Metroamp thread here fwiw).ītw the studio 1 plan image is from the Sunset Sound site years ago and is an official plan of Studio 1 and I just put where I thought Ed Mike and Alex were located into it.īasically, it had to be that setup because the guitar hero isolated clips came out (years ago) and Ed's and Mike's cabinets had to be isolated in Studio 1 of Sunset Sound because there was hardly any bleed.ĭLR's vocals are also isolated with hardly any bleed but all of the isolated rooms were filled by Ed and Mike's cabinets so DLR must have done the vocals later or maybe been in the control room or maybe some other way. The bottom image shows how I worked it out years ago at the Metroamp forum, which turns out to be pretty accurate (fwiw) It also shows Mikes cab isolated as well (use the mic info in the second photo). ![]() It clearly shows Ed's cab isolated in the vocal booth (use the mic info in the second photo). The producer in the video recently got hold of the original VH1 recording setup notes from Sunset Sound, which is the first photo below. ![]()
